Carica Papaya commonly known as melon tree, papaya  is native to  Mexico and northern South America .

It has become naturalized in all tropical and subtropical regions of the world.

It is a small single stem tree which can grow up to a height of 5 to 10 meters to 2.5 meters long. The male tree never gives fruit but only pollen.

The hermaphrodite papaya tree can self pollinate hence all papaya orchards keep the hermaphrodite papaya tree only.

India produces almost 45% of total papayas in the world.
