Bhumi Amla (Phyllanthusniruri)
Phyllanthusniruri is a very effective and potent herb that is having multiple uses. It is also known by the name of Dukonganak and possesses properties like anti-inflammatory and reduces hyperbilirubinemia. It also helps in detoxifying the liver and removes the accumulated toxins in the liver. The herb is having sheetavirya,tikta (pungent) kashaya (astringent) and madhur (sweet) rasa (taste) along with laghu and rukshaguna. Due to these properties, it acts as a kapahapittahara. Bhumiamla is also an amazing appetizer, bears digestive properties and stimulates the functioning of the liver.
Kalmegh (Andrographispaniculata)
In the name AndrographispaniculataAndrographis is used to denote male and paniculata means a loose cluster of flowers. Andrographispaniculatais known as kalmegh due to its appearance like a dark cloud. This herb is specifically used in this formulation as it protects the liver from free radical damage and also against some foreign agents like hepatitis B virus. It also behaves as a kriminashak and bears anti-inflammatory properties as well. Kalmegh is also known as bhuminimb and it’s taste is tikta, guna is laghu and ruksha along with ushnavirya. Katuki(Picrorhizakurroa)
Katuki belongs to bhesaniya, lekhaniya, tiktaskandha and pippalyadigana. This herb is having samikaran property that means if administered in small doses it behaves as a rasayani (rejuvenates) and if used in large quantities it helps in scraping (lekhaniya) the toxins out of the body. The commonly used part of this herb is it’s roots which tend to liver function enhancement properties and thus regulates the flow of bile, which is very important for the absorption of fats and carbohydrates from our digestive system. It mainly acts on kapha and pitta dosha.
Punarnava (Boerhaviadiffusa)
Punarnava is known as Boerhavia in Latin after the name of its discoverer and diffusa means something that spreads widely. In English it is known as spreading hogweed and is available in almost every part of India. Punarnava has multiple effects in various conditions but its most important property of acting as a diuretic is appreciable from decades. It helps in getting rid of accumulated water inside of the body. Water retention is generally an associated complaint with liver disorders but punarnava helps in either preventing water retention in the body or in getting rid of accumulated water in the body. It behaves as a natural tonic and acts on both the liver and kidney. It marvelously results in reducing external and internal swelling. (पुनर्नवा च शोथघनि)
Makoy (Solanumindicum)
Makoy which is known as kakamachi in Sanskrit and belongs to kantakarikula. If used internally it is having ushnaveerya and possess deepana and pachana properties. The agni which is generally hampered due to the imbalance liver functioning can be ignited using this herb and that is the reason it is included as an ingredient in this formulation.
Sharpunkha (Tephrosiapurpurea)
This herb belongs to shimbikula and its upkula is aparajita. Sharpunkha is very much effective in reducing inflammation and has healing properties. It has rochaka, deepak and anuloman properties that helps in improving digestion, ignites interest in eating (enhances appetite) and is a pitta sarak (optimises bile secretion). It is also having satakarniproperties, that is it has rejuvenating properties (acts as rasayan). Tephrosia acts as raktavahastrotasgami which means it is having very beneficial results in spleen and liver disorders.
Kaasni (Cichoriumintybus)
The herb is known as endive and chicory in English. It possesses laghu, rukshaguna and virya is sheeta but its roots are having ushnavirya and is very useful in both kapha and pitta induced disorders. If used externally then its paste reduces the swelling due to pitta dosha.
Bhringraj (Ecliptaalba)
It belongs to bhringrajkula and alleviates vata and acts as an analgesic. It is also an excellent appetizer, digestant and also as a liver stimulant. It mainly acts on the liver and spleen and improves the bilious flow, in addition it digests ama, increases the appetite and has great results in liver and spleen enlargement.
Indications
This formulation is indicated fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, liver failure, jaundice, hepatitis, ALD (alcoholic liver diseases), enlarged liver or spleen.

One tsp twice a day after meals.
