As promised, here is part 2 of our healthy holiday recipes. Chocolate chip cookies are every child’s favourite and sure enough they never get enough of it. So why not let them indulge while we are guilt free not feeding them white flour (maida)? Bake them with whole wheat flour instead. That way they can take it to school for snacks and you won’t even fret about them eating junk. Complete win – win situation right?
So here is the fool proof recipe that we have used over and over again. To the extent that now my 10 year old daughter bakes these herself whenever there is no “junk” in the house!
1 cup butter
¾ cup white sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
Mix with hand mixer
1 ½ tsp vanilla essence
Mix in the same bowl
2 ¼ cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
Mix (in a separate bowl from the wet ingredients above)
Now combine everything and add 1 ½ cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of chopped walnuts (optional).
After mixing the dough, make small balls, flatten with your palm and cut them into desired cookie shapes. Once all cookies are spread on a tray, bake in a preheated over at 190° C for 10 to 15 mins.
Don't let these bake till they are very hard. Pull them out when they are slightly tender to touch and let them harden while cooling outside. Enjoy with milk or tea or just plain!
